A skin cancer check typically takes around 15 -20minutes. During the examination, your doctor will carefully assess your head, face, neck, torso, arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes. You will be asked to undress to your underwear, and a blanket can be provided for your comfort. Genital areasare not routinely examined, but since skin cancers can develop anywhere on the body, pleaseinform your doctor if you have any concerns in these areasthey will only examine them at yourrequest. Your skin will be checked using a dermatoscope, a specialised skin microscope that helps the doctor assess moles and lesions more accurately. The examination is completely painless. If a suspicious spot is found, the doctor may take a photograph for your records or perform a biopsy (a small sample of skin) for further analysis.
