DIRECT WOUND DRESSINGS INFORMATION (Micropore/ Steristrips/ Hypafix /Mefix) :
These dressings support the wound.
They are POROUS and are allowed to get wet.
They are normally left undisturbed until the sutures are removed.
SURFACE DRESSINGS INFORMATION (Melolin gauze secured with
mefix/ micropore /tegaderm):
These are outer dressings that helps support the wound and absorb any
oozing/bleeding. This should be kept dry for 5 days after which it could be
removed. You can soak the outer dressing in a shower to aid removal.
Do not remove the direct wound tape/dressing until removal of sutures.
Avoid soap/creams/linements/antiseptics e.g betadine/savlon/detol
Infection can occur, so it is important to check if:
- The surrounding skin is becoming increasingly tender to touch
- The redness is more than 1cm from the treated area
- The redness is increasing
- There is discharge/pus
