- WHAT IS A BIOPSY ?
Biopsies are used to help diagnose suspicious skin lesions and help provide the best treatment options.
3 common biopsy techniques used:- Punch Biopsy – removes a small cylinder of skin, usually 2-5 mm diameter
- Shave Biopsy – removes a small thin surface layer of skin.
- Excisional biopsy – The entire lesion is excised with a little margin and the wound is sutured.
The biopsy specimen is sent to a Pathology Laboratory and a report is issued.
A Doctor’s appointment is made for the following week to:
- discuss the results of the biopsy report
- discuss treatment options
- discuss any long-term follow-up required.
